A.P.S. BULLETIN # 27                                                                        DECEMBER 17,2007

SUBJECT:    UTILIZATION OF AUXILIARY POLICE ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

       1.             Once again the Department is requesting the assistance of volunteer Auxiliary
Police in supplementing the uniformed police patrols in commands throughout the City during
the New Year 's Eve celebration on Monday, December 31,2007. Details and instructions are
outlined below:

       2.             During this event, Auxiliary Police Officers of all ranks will remain in their
commands (note, exception in paragraph # 4). They will be assigned duties and functions as per
the needs of the service, as directed by their Police Commanding Officer. Duties shall include,
but not limited to, uniform patrols in residential and commercial areas, station house security,
and special attention to houses of worship, transit entrances and other facilities that may be
subject to criminal activity. Any unusual activity or criminal acts shall be reported at once to the
uniform police for their immediate response.

       3.             Auxiliary Police reporting for duty in their commands shall be inspected for the
uniform of the day, which shall include their traffic safety vest , operable flashlight and whistle.
Auxiliary Police Coordinators, or an alternate uniformed member of the service , will be assigned
to oversee the activities of the Auxiliary Police for their tour of duty. Auxiliary Police
Coordinators will report to their Commanding Officer for instructions relative to assignment of
Auxiliary Police personnel.

       4.             Auxiliary Police shall report to their assigned commands ONLY. However, those
assigned to PBMS will be guided by their Precinct and Borough Auxiliary Police Coordinator
relative to assignment at the PBMS New Year's Eve detail. Only those Auxiliary Police Officers
assigned to this detail by their Auxiliary Police Coordinator will be allowed to perform duty.

       5.             As the Year 2007 concludes, I would like to express to all Auxiliary Police
Coordinators and Auxiliary Police members a special "thank you" for your commitment and
dedication to improving quality of life in your community and assisting-the New York City
Police Department in that endeavor. Wishing all of you, a safe and Happy Holiday and look
forward to working closely with you for another successful Year, in 2008.
